The brief

When you were 12 years old, did you think about your future? Questions such as where you want to work or what do you want to study! Did you even know that there is a place called "University"? The question is, would your future have been different if you had already known about all these opportunities related to studies and the working life after studies? This is what the University of Oulu wants to find out!

The background

Me & MyCity is a learning concept aimed at school children, covering society, working life and entrepreneurship. The Me & MyCity learning environment is a miniature city where students work in a profession and function as consumers and citizens as part of society. In Oulu this place is called Yrityskylä. University of Oulu is an active participant in the Yrityskylä concept and their aim is to get children acquainted with university studies and what kinds of working life opportunities university studies can provide.

The problem

The following questions should be considered: -How do children understand the concept of university? What would make it more understandable for them? -In what ways can we ensure that youth (12 year olds) can understand and are already on an academic path that includes University studies (focus on UniOulu)? -How can we add the working life perspective into the concept? -How all of this should be presented to children? What ways ensure learning best? Tablet games, facilitated workshops etc.? What should be the content? Skills needed: Educational psychology, humanities, business, design, technical skills.
